Managed effectively, codes and standards programs can enhance membership value, bolster industries, and allow organizations to effectively align with the stakeholders they serve. Kellen has worked alongside a great number of varied organizations and industries to help facilitate the standards development of several domestic and international trade associations and professional societies. Developing and forming coalitions to leverage our deep industry relationships and advance client positions is another hallmark of our innovative approach to codes and standards advocacy.
Kellen’s codes and standards team is qualified in all stages of the certification process, from developing and validating standards through ANSI to testing and administering certification programs across multiple industries. We are experienced in assembling stakeholders, navigating the ANSI and ASTM consensus processes, publishing and marketing standards, and creating certification programs. We currently administer dozens of industry standards, sit on ASTM standards committees and are active in meetings of safety standards and code organizations such as ANSI, CPSC, ICC, ISO, OSHA and NFPA.
Kellen has extensive experience with the management of layered associations where board level oversight of committee-level technical activity affecting product safety and regulatory compliance matters is of importance. Kellen understands the need to seek consensus across the membership without regard to the company size or level of participation, despite the obvious challenges.
Kellen manages several ANSI standards processes, and participates in many more. Our client portfolio includes product manufacturers who rely on the ANSI (or other consensus-based) processes for product standards. Kellen has experience on the front-end of standards development, the inclusion of these standards into the codes and the implementation and management of labeling programs as well as managing alliances that help improve safety and appropriately manage risk to clients.
We are sensitive to the need for a balanced approach to solving complex problems, while recognizing the pitfalls that can arise during the development of voluntary safety measures. We have a long history of success working with governmental entities, safety advocates, consumer groups and other industry stakeholders to represent our clients as responsible advocates on a global level. Through our offices in Brussels, Belgium Kellen monitors ISO meetings and related activity that requires continued on the ground presence.
