Georgia Natural Gas (GNG) – the first and only marketer in Georgia that sold recycled natural gas – teamed up with Honda – the first automaker to build a consumer production car to run on natural gas – as part of GNG’s recycled gas and the environment initiative. The Honda Civic GX NGV (natural gas vehicle) and the accompanying home fueling station was the prize in a GNG sweepstakes where visitors were given the chance to enter to win by playing games online at www.onlygng.com.
As GNG’s website development firm, Kellen developed the online games which consisted of a memory game “Remember your keys”, a trivia game “In Pursuit of the Honda Civic GX NGV”, and a wheel game “Spin It and you may just Win It”. Site visitor data (including email address) was gathered on a “sign up to play” page. Programming for the game then collected and awarded entries per game (1 entry for playing, 1 additional entry for winning) into a database for eligibility for the car giveaway.
The promotion was capped by a special car giveaway event – the first ever “Keys to a Cleaner Georgia” fair – where local residents could recycle their old electronics, while listening to live entertainment and taking in the sights of a traditional town fair. The night ended when each of the five finalists took their hand at trying their key to start the car.
During the sweepstakes period, visits to the website increased by 9% and pageviews increased by 21% compared with the same period in the year before. On some days during the promotion, the website saw an increase in visits of up to 30%. Importantly, the game captured email addresses and other participant information to supplement GNG’s database for marketing.
