New York Women in Communications (NYWICI) hired Kellen in 1992 as a small niche industry group searching for an identity. Today, with more than 2,000 members, it is by far the most recognized and powerful organization of its kind. In addition to a vibrant membership, NYWICI hosts the Matrix Awards—an annual luncheon event that Kellen helped take from an industry awards show that generated modest revenue to a star-studded gala attracting 1,200 guests.
Every year Kellen’s communications, meetings and digital teams work together to assure the Matrix Awards come off without a hitch. By highlighting the accomplishments of Matrix honorees in sectors such as journalism, advertising, PR, digital media and broadcasting, Kellen is able to leverage the society’s message to secure mass media attention for event, society and its foundation. Kellen’s communications team also taps into the group’s active and engaged digital community. Weekly “Matrix Monday” blog posts, e-blasts and tweets are sent to build excitement, and the event is live streamed and live tweeted to audiences across the United States.
In 2015, Kellen flawlessly executed the industry event that included Martha Stewart as the emcee and inspiring remarks from each of the honorees and presenters. Kellen’s communications team secured top-tier media coverage of the event that included the TODAY show, New York Post, CNN Money, Inc., Extra and Adweek, to name a few, resulting in over 200 million impressions. The massive amount of media attention covering the awards not only heightens the organizations profile but assists in gaining membership, additional sponsorships and funding for the organizations scholarship program.
