A large trade association in the travel industry engaged Kellen to begin an analysis and provide recommendations for the restructuring of the global industry. The industry was fragmented with 11 major national or regional associations across the world.
During the initial assessment phase, Kellen met with the Boards and staff of every organization to assess mission, goals, strategies and accomplishments. We also examined the bylaws and governance structure of each entity and reviewed the financial and cost structure for each group.
After completion of the assessment phase, Kellen completed a comparative study of other global organizations with similar size and operations. Based upon our experience, we recommended a global parent structure with regional and national organizations as needed. The recommendation was accepted by the members of each organization.
To implement the transformation, Kellen wrote new bylaws for the association as a global organization. Kellen also worked with each of the regional and national groups to ensure their bylaws aligned with the new, global organization. Some organizations were combined or changed into other types of organizations.
After the redraft of the by-laws and the introduction of a new and improved dues structure, Kellen assisted the association in the adoption of the new bylaws by each organization so that the new structure would be in place to coincide with the new fiscal year.
With a unified voice to represent the industry, the association was able to transform from a United States based association to a global association with revenue in excess of $28 million in the space of two years.
