November 7, 2012
In anticipation of our Social Media panel (“From Social Network to Social Business: Tales from the Social Media Marketplace”) at the 2012 International Hotel Motel and Restaurant Show in New York at the Jacob Javits Center on November 10, 2012, I recently sat down with Virginia Pettit who is on the communications team of the global design and architecture power-brand, Gensler.
Gensler has an incredibly robust social media strategy using blogging, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and three Twitter accounts. Somehow, they accomplish all of this with a communications team of six!
Virginia is a forward thinker and her evangelizing about what the future holds in store for social media and the Gensler brand is contagious. Here are just a few of the topics we discussed:
- Our attention spans have gotten shorter due to social media. The fact that “Gensler is telling more stories in sound bytes is having a profound effect on our entire communications strategy.”
- Right now, there is a healthy tension between traditional marketing and social media. The key to Gensler’s success in the medium is that it “empowers employees to be creative and encourages them to take risks.”
- Because of social, the future of B2B brands such as Gensler may actually be B2C! A world where consumers know they are staying in a Gensler designed hotel or dining in a Gensler designed restaurant is right around the corner…
Please join us on November 10 at Jacob Javits Center to continue the conversation!
