DIA – Entering China – Steps to Building a Successful Presence

Challenge

DIA is a global association that mobilizes life science professionals from across all areas of expertise to engage with patients, peers, and thought leaders in a neutral environment on the issues of today and the possibilities for tomorrow. DIA was looking for in-country support to set up an office in China, manage the volunteer council, and provide a full range of support and services for DIA China conferences and training, as well as membership recruitment.

Solution

Kellen provided a one-stop solution, with a professional bilingual team to run the China presence, including membership service, volunteer leadership, and meeting services. The core aspect was to set up a strong and well-respected Advisory Council with senior stakeholders from industry, government, and academia healthcare, setting a solid strategic direction, and leveraging relations for the organization.

Outcome
  • A professional team on the ground, easily scalable for peak season and growth in China
  • An effective Advisory Council to take the strategy for the association to the next level in China
  • Deepened relationships with government and local counterparts
  • Continued growth in membership; participation for the Annual Meeting tripled, and exhibition increased sixfold in the period of 8 years
